They also ignore that in case of\nthings going wrong in an NRI marriage, the woman\u2019s recourse to justice is\ngreatly constrained and complex. The aggravated risk in such marriage is the\nwoman is being \u2018isolated\u2019 far away from home in an alien land, facing language\nconstraints, communication problems, lack of proper information about the local\ncriminal justice, police and legal system. The problem is manifold and it\nincorporates issues like dowry and various other types of harassment of married\nwomen in foreign countries, marriages of convenience, concealment of earlier\nexisting marriage by the husband before marrying an Indian woman. Another very\nimportant issue which needs attention is lack of social security faced by an\nIndian woman in a foreign country when the marriage is not working. The\nsituation is worsened by lack of support network of friends and family and\nmonetary constraints which leaves the deserted wife completely helpless and\nstranded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Following are what might happen after getting married to\nan NRI-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Husband may\nabandon the woman even before she is taken to the foreign country of his residence\nwith the promise that she could soon follow him, in most cases, the woman also\ngets pregnant, arid she and her child, both get abandoned, never to be taken\nback by the husband.<\/li><li>The woman finds\nher-self alone in the foreign country and is assaulted and abused both\nphysically and mentally and is malnourished, confined arid ill-treated by the\nhusband or his relatives.<\/li><li>The woman may be\nharassed for dowry.<\/li><li>The woman may land\nup in the foreign country and discover that no one turns up to receive her and\nshe has nowhere to go to. She has no or limited money and no means to go back\nand also does not have legal sanction to stay in the foreign country beyond a\nspecified period.<\/li><li>The woman\ndiscovers that husband is already married or is in relationship with another\nwoman or has a family already.<\/li><li>She discovers that\nher husband had given false information regarding his immigration status jobs\nproperty, marital status and other such material particulars.<\/li><li>She discovers that\nthe man he married does not work where he told them before marriage.
